DEVELOPMENTAL EDITING

  • A comprehensive look at the overall structure and story elements in your manuscript, including a detailed analysis of the characters, plot, pacing, setting, etc (depending on author preference). I will provide feedback on strengths, weaknesses, questions, and suggestions in all areas. Also includes a phone/video call at the beginning and end of the process.
  • This service is only available for longer manuscripts (20,000+ words)
  • Typically $75/hour or $500 flat rate

LINE EDITING

  • Proofreading & line-by-line editing on a story, novel, or collection up to 120,000 words.
  • A deep dive into the language and style of your manuscript. This service includes catching grammatical errors and typos, but also strengthening the prose by removing redundancies, improving similes, and tightening dialogue, flow, syntax and lexical choice.
  • I will provide a copy of your manuscript with tracked changes, suggested edits, and comments via Microsoft Word or Google Docs. Also includes a one-hour phone/video call (if desired) to get feedback on the novel overall.
  • Starting at $0.02/word

Copy Editing

  • A stripped down version of line editing that focuses on the language of your manuscript. This service includes fine-tuning word choice, grammar, punctuation, repetition, and any tense/perspective inconsistencies.
  • I will provide a copy of your manuscript with tracked changes, suggested edits, and comments via Microsoft Word or Google Docs.
  • Starting at $0.01/word

  • Cover letter, proposal, synopsis, blurb or even a short story (5,000 words or less)
  • Focuses on minor typos, grammatical errors, and quick checks for formatting inconsistencies
  • I will provide a copy of your manuscript with highlighted changes via Microsoft Word or Google Docs
  • Typically $15-25
